The KK Houses project is located on a hill outside of the city of Heraklion. The 4.500 square metres plot is characterised by the great views towards a typical cretan countryside and the existing garden full of aged old olive trees.
The brief required to design two detached houses with spacious outdoor spaces and a pool.
The views together with the desire for privacy were the starting points for the design proposal. The buildings have been placed one next to another but not parallel so every building captures a different view. The houses are arranged in three levels dividing the areas between social and private life.
Each building has its unique design but follows the same layout philosophy.
The lower floors contain storage areas and the gym and is directly connected with the garden.
The first floors are divided between social and private life occupied by the living-dining area, the kitchen, a bathroom and two bedrooms. Kitchen embrace the living space creating a sense of looseness. Openings of different sizes and geometry connect the interior space with the exterior framing featured points of the landscape.
The master bedroom and the office area are contained within the second level which is overlooking the social areas.
Large terraces and balconies are emphasising the views creating unique social spaces.
Sustainable design solutions and specifications have been applied to achieve a high level of comfort and low operational running costs.
The pool is located on a different level reassuring the acces from both houses and achieving the desired privacy from the surroundings.
